Doll Journey: The spirit of Beaded 2 Bless

Image
When beads become a blessing, you have hit the nail on the head. Today I received some "happy mail". You know the kind of mail that brings a gift or an unexpected nicety instead of a bill or application. In the mail I found the first 3 packages from my "Bead Sisters" containing feathers! Wow, 3 at one time, the power of numbers doesn't fall dead on the brain. Let me back track a moment .  I sent a post on a yahoo group  that  asked for urgent help making feathers. I asked  those interested to email me for more details. What they didn't expect was that I wanted them to create the feathers while listening to praise/ worship music, the word or while they prayed. I knew that some might be completely turned off at the idea but I was not ready for the amazing words that came from some of the participants. Many of them said they "would be honored" to help. One lady was "blown away" by my request as she hasn't been a Christian for very long....

Doll Journey: Faithfulness

Image
The  biggest challenge I face when I create a large project (of any kind) is faithfulness. I allow myself to toy with different ideas within the project but I am a stickler for being faithful to the vision. If it doesn't fit- it gets tossed to the side. This process is actually the part that I love. I think you might  call it problem solving but I like to refer to it as creative engineering.  When I began this doll,  I felt like I was working with a foreign medium, one never explored before. It sounds strange even to me, especially as I had my previous pieces right under my nose to contradict that feeling of inadequacy. I haven't made a doll in quite some time. I was completely disinterested with anything that had to do with bead embroidery. The last doll I completed took such a chunk of my soul to complete, I am still struggling getting over it and the events of my life that occured while creating her. So, I started to embroider on the arms of th...

BEADS!!!

Here are two of my "students" at Bead Heaven. The one on the left took the class on the 11th and was not relishing the project at all. You may have guessed that from her expression. Perhaps she will view it with fresh eyes at a later date and enjoy it more then. The lady on the right took the class two weeks before and showed me her own color-way she had put together. She loved making the cogs and allowed me to take photos of them. I have learned loads about people in general from teaching this class and it has been an invaluable experience. I have taught children for a very long time but teaching adults is a whole new ball game and can be quite intimidating. Learning different ways to cope with different types of students is going to be one fast learning curve. I have seen other ladies do wonderful things with this kit and its instructions. I could kick myself for not getting pictures of  one lady's cogs. She vowed to use every bead in the kit and every ring. She did i...
